I Feel Stuck in Life. Can Counselling Help?
Feeling stuck can be difficult to explain.
From the outside, your life might look absolutely fine. You're getting through each day, going to work, looking after your family or doing everything that's expected of you. But inside, it can feel as though you've stopped moving forward. You may feel unmotivated, uncertain about the future or as though you've lost your sense of direction.
You might even find yourself asking, "Is this it?"
Sometimes there's an obvious reason. A relationship may have ended, you've changed career, retired, received a health diagnosis or reached a point where life no longer looks the way you imagined it would. Other times, the feeling arrives gradually without one clear cause.
When you feel stuck, it's tempting to believe you just need to make a big decision or change something about your life. Sometimes that's true. But often, it's difficult to know what needs to change until you've had the chance to slow down and make sense of what's happening.
That's where counselling can help.
Person-centred counselling isn't about telling you which direction to take or encouraging you to make dramatic life changes. Instead, it offers a space where you can explore what's keeping you stuck without judgement or pressure.
As we untangle your thoughts and feelings together, you may begin to notice what's really important to you. You might recognise patterns you've never seen before, reconnect with parts of yourself that have been pushed aside or realise that the answer isn't as far away as it first seemed.
Feeling stuck doesn't mean you've failed or that you'll always feel this way. Sometimes it simply means you've reached a point in your life where something needs your attention before you can move forward.
