I Have a Good Life. So Why Don't I Feel Happy?
You don't have to be in crisis to benefit from counselling. Sometimes the hardest feelings to make sense of are the ones that don't seem to have an obvious reason.
From the outside, your life might look just as you hoped it would.
Perhaps you have people who care about you, a home, a family, work that's going well or a life that others might even envy. You know there are things to be grateful for and yet something doesn't feel quite right.
You may find yourself wondering, Why don't I feel happy?
This question can bring feelings of guilt or confusion. You might tell yourself that you have no reason to feel this way or compare yourself to people who seem to be facing much greater challenges. You may even find yourself pushing your feelings aside because they don't seem justified.
But our emotions don't work like that.
Feeling unhappy doesn't always mean that something is obviously wrong. Sometimes stress builds gradually over time. Sometimes you've spent so long meeting other people's needs that you've lost touch with your own. Sometimes life has changed in ways you haven't fully recognised or accepted. And sometimes you simply know that you don't feel like yourself anymore.
Your feelings don't have to be explained before they deserve your attention.
Counselling offers a space to explore those thoughts without judgement. You don't need to arrive with a clear reason for feeling the way you do or have everything worked out before you begin. If all you know is that something feels different, that's enough.
In person-centred therapy, we begin wherever you are. Together we can gently explore your thoughts and feelings, helping you make sense of your experience at your own pace. Often people discover that nothing is "wrong" with them at all. Instead, they've been carrying more than they realised or have quietly drifted away from the things that help them feel connected to themselves.
At Pebbleshed Therapy, I offer online person-centred counselling for adults across the UK. Whether you're wondering why you don't feel as happy as you think you should or simply have the sense that something isn't quite right, you'll find a warm, accepting space where you can talk freely without judgement. If you're wondering whether counselling could help, you're warmly invited to book a free initial 20 minute consultation where we can talk about what you're experiencing and whether working together feels like the right fit for you.
