Why Do I Feel Emotional All the Time?

If you feel like you're crying more easily than you used to, becoming upset over small things or riding an emotional rollercoaster, you may be wondering what's wrong with you.

The truth is, there may be nothing wrong with you at all.

Our emotions don't usually appear out of nowhere. They often tell us that something needs our attention. Stress, anxiety, grief, relationship difficulties, major life changes, poor sleep, health concerns or simply carrying too much for too long can all leave us feeling more emotional than usual.

Sometimes there isn't one obvious reason. It can feel as though everything has gradually built up until even the smallest thing becomes the final straw.

Many people apologise for being emotional. They describe themselves as "too sensitive" or worry they're overreacting. Often, they've spent weeks, months or even years trying to hold everything together before their feelings begin to spill over.

Being emotional doesn't mean you're weak. It doesn't mean you're failing to cope. It may simply be a sign that you've been coping for a very long time.

Person-centred counselling offers a space where you don't have to hide your emotions or explain them away. Whether you're feeling sad, anxious, angry, overwhelmed or you're not even sure what you're feeling, we can begin there. You don't have to arrive with everything neatly organised or know exactly why you're feeling the way you do.

As you begin to untangle what's been happening in your life, things often become clearer. You may start to recognise patterns, understand what's been weighing on you or simply experience the relief of no longer carrying everything on your own.

You don't need to stop being emotional before you come to counselling. Sometimes therapy helps because it gives those feelings somewhere safe to go.

At Pebbleshed Therapy, I offer online person-centred counselling for adults across the UK. If you've been wondering why you feel so emotional all the time, you're welcome to book a free 20-minute initial consultation. It's a relaxed opportunity to ask questions, find out how I work and see whether we'd like to work together, with no obligation to book further sessions.
