What's the Difference Between Counselling and Therapy?
In the UK the terms counselling and therapy are often used interchangeably. The most important thing isn't what it's called, but finding a therapist you feel comfortable talking to.
If you've been looking for support, you may have noticed that some people describe themselves as counsellors, while others use the word therapist. It's understandable to wonder whether there's an important difference.
In reality, the two terms are often used interchangeably, particularly in the UK. Some practitioners choose one title over the other because of their training, the organisation they belong to or simply personal preference. Many, like me, use both.
What's far more important than the title is the relationship you build with your counsellor or therapist. Feeling listened to, accepted and understood is one of the strongest foundations for effective therapy.
At Pebbleshed Therapy, I offer online person-centred counselling (or therapy!). Sessions are led by you and what feels important to you. Whether you're feeling overwhelmed, navigating a life change, struggling with your mental wellbeing or simply trying to make sense of your thoughts and feelings, you'll be met with warmth, honesty and respect.
If you're looking for support, don't worry too much about whether you search for counselling or therapy. Instead, focus on finding someone you feel comfortable speaking with.
If you're wondering whether we'd be a good fit, you're warmly invited to book a free initial 20 minute consultation. It's an opportunity to meet, ask questions and see whether working together feels like the right fit for you.
